Texas Vet Lab (TVL) has been conducting research, development, diagnostics, and producing USDA fully-licensed commercial vaccines since 1982 with the primary focus being on the pathogens that cause Bovine Respiratory Disease in stocker/feeder cattle.

Commercial vaccine production is primarily bacterins and bacterin-toxoids that contain the following organisms in specific combinations:

·         Mannheimia haemolytica Types A-1 and A-6

·         Pasteurella multocida

·         Histophilus somni

·         Salmonella typhimurium

·         Mycoplasma bovis

Additionally, TVL also manufactures a combination Mannheimia, Pasteurella, Histophilus bacterin-toxoid that contains killed IBR and killed BVD-1.  Also, a compliment to this product is our adjuvanted, modified live virus vaccine that containing IBR, PI3 and BRSV that confers protection after a single dose.

TVL has been licensed to manufacture autogenous (custom) biologicals for over 20 years.  Previous management practice was to reserve the use of autogenous vaccines for disease-causing organisms of which a fully-licensed commercial vaccine was not available, a need for improved antigen specificity, or other scientific justification demonstrating a need for a more efficacious vaccine. Some examples of these vaccines are:

·         Moraxella ovis for cattle

·         Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis for goats

·         Unique serotypes of M. haemolytica for cattle, sheep and goats

·         Unique serovars of Salmonella for cattle

·         Unique isolates of Mycoplasma bovis

Since the passing of the company’s founder, Dr. Bill Wohler, in 2007, and subsequent change in management and ownership to Mr. Jim Harris, TVL is continuing our commitment to the manufacturing of  quality commercial vaccines and we are actively pursuing opportunities, and suggestions, to build the company’s offerings to the cattle practitioner. If you are considering autogenous vaccines as a viable option for disease prevention in your health program, TVL has the expertise to meet your needs.

Recent investments in state of the art laboratory equipment, as well as, the hiring of additional qualified lab personnel are some examples of our efforts to further expand our lab capabilities and services to the veterinarian. In 2009 the lab processed over 3500 cattle diagnostic samples.  With this data, a web-based platform has been initiated that veterinary partners can access daily to view test results which allows for rapid feedback on viral and bacterial identification, as well as, antibiotic sensitivity data on bacterial isolates.  Customers find this complimentary service extremely beneficial when selecting appropriate antibiotic therapy for pen/lot specific bacterial pathogens.

We would be glad to discuss in further detail any of these topics that you may have an interest.
